Chrome Pro: The Good
The Deluxe Chrome Pro has quite a few positive features and qualities. Here’s what we like in particular, and why we think these make it one of the best hair clippers worth considering.
It’s a Full Grooming Kit, Complete with Most Everything You’d Need
The first thing that caught our eye—and one of the main reasons we decided to review it—is that the Deluxe Chrome Pro comes in a full grooming kit. It’s not just the clippers themselves, rather you get a number of helpful tools that all fit into a convenient carrying case. These tools include:
- 14 guide combs
- Blade oil
- Cleaning brush
- 2 styling combs
- Scissors
- Barber’s cape
- Ear trimming guide combs
- Eyebrow trimming guide comb
As you can see, this is a pretty complete kit. We definitely love the 14 guide combs that range in length from 1/16-inch to one inch. This means you can do more than just trim hair or give buzz cuts. You can actually create elaborate hairstyles with varying lengths. Perhaps even more impressive, the ear guide combs help you create professional looking lines over the ears. Similarly, the scissors and combs are necessities for professionals and great for personal use because you can start learning more advanced haircutting techniques.
At the same time the maintenance equipment like the cleaning brush help increase the life of the clippers. Brush out the extra clippings and oil the blades after each use to keep it running smoothly and effectively.
Finally, we like the carrying case. This is an ideal feature for just about anyone. Traveling barbers definitely need it to take all their equipment with them from house to house, but even other hairdressers and personal users can benefit because it helps with organization and makes it less likely you lose those important guide combs.
It Includes a Trimmer, Which Many Other Clipper Sets Don’t Feature
We wanted to make a separate section for the included trimmer because it’s our favorite part of the full grooming kit. Small and compact, it allows you to much more easily get those hard to reach areas behind the ears and on the neck. Plus, it’s cordless, so you can hold it at all kinds of different angles without worrying about getting it caught on something or pulling it out of the wall.
It’s Got a Little Extra Cutting Power
We like Wahl clipper models in general, but we thought the Deluxe Chrome Pro really stood out because they boosted its power. Specifically, it has 35 percent more power than past Wahl models with the same magnetic motor.
Motor power makes a big difference in the quality of the cut. For one thing, it usually means you can cut the hair a lot faster. Plus, it’s more comfortable a more powerful motor puts more force behind the blades, which means they’re less likely to snag or yank on hairs they don’t fully cut.
It’s Fairly Lightweight, Which is Great Even If You’re Only Giving a Single Haircut
We were impressed that the Deluxe Chrome Pro weighs just one pound, pretty lightweight for a set of clippers. This is an advantage for professionals and amateurs alike. For professionals it’s nice because you can hold it for long periods multiple times a day without it tiring you out as much. Meanwhile for amateurs who might not be as used to manipulating clippers, it makes it easier to hold and move.
Non-Slip Grip
If you’ve read many of our other articles, you know that the staff here at Rough and Tumble Gentleman are really picky about our clipper grips. Too many times we’ve used clippers that slip around when we’re holding them. And they don’t have to fall completely out of your hands to ruin a haircut. Even a little slip can mean you buzz off too much hair or yank it.
We like the grip on the Deluxe Chrome Pro because it’s non-slip and easy to keep hold of even if your hands get wet, which is pretty common when you’re cutting hair. It’s also ergonomic so it feels natural and not clumsy in your hand.
It’s Got Self-Sharpening Blades
Similar to the powerful motor, we really liked the blades on the Deluxe Chrome Pro. Specifically, we liked that they’re sharp and stay sharp due to their “self-sharpening” design. By resisting corrosion and sharpening themselves through friction, the blades cut hairs with less force.
Combine this with the more powerful motor, and you get a much more comfortable haircut with less yanks and pulls that can cause skin irritation. Plus, as the haircutter, you don’t have to put as much effort into the trimming process.
Last: It Features an Adjustable Taper Lever
The adjustable taper lever is another feature that combines well with the full grooming kit to deliver more advanced and elaborate haircuts. While the various guide combs allow you to trim at different lengths, being able to adjust the taper of the blades lets you create precise fades and line-ups, though it does take some know-how. You can even do this while one of the guide combs is attached to blend the area from one length to the next.

Chrome Pro: The Bad (Or, Rather, What We Didn’t Like)
No machine is perfect, and we want to give you the full story. There are a few things we didn’t like about the Deluxe Chrome Pro, and you should keep them in mind.
The Motor is Loud! Not Crazy Loud, But Loud
Perhaps it’s because Wahl made it more powerful, but we found the Deluxe Chrome Pro’s motor to be a bit on the loud side. This isn’t the worst thing in the world, but for a professional, it can add to the noise of an already chaotic salon. For those cutting their kids’ hair at home, it could make it harder to get them to sit still, especially when you trim around the ears.
The Guide Combs A Little Flimsy
We love that the Deluxe Chrome Pro comes with so many guide combs, but we have to admit that they’re a bit flimsy. It doesn’t take a lot to break them, so be careful. That said, you can always get more from Wahl if something does happen to one of them.
The Trimmer Requires Batteries
One of our favorite features of this clipper set is the included mini trimmer, but you have to keep in mind that it requires AA batteries, which aren’t included. No, this isn’t that big of a deal, but in a perfect world, we’d like to see the mini trimmer have a rechargeable battery so you don’t have to worry about replacing batteries when they run out.
Who Should Consider the Wahl Clipper Deluxe Chrome Pro
We think most people could benefit from this Wahl model, but there are three groups in particular who should really consider it.
Traveling Barbers
Ever since the pandemic, barbers have started making more housecalls, which we love. But that definitely comes with its own set of challenges for the professionals involved. The biggest is probably getting your equipment from house to house.
This is why we recommend the Wahl Clipper Deluxe Chrome Pro for traveling barbers. Not only does it have a wide range of gear in its kit, but you can easily store and carry it all thanks to the soft-shell carrying case.
New Barbers
