Beard Care Basics
When it comes to basic health, we always like to see what the American Academy of Dermatology has to say. This simple guide to beard care is written by medical professionals and offers care advice for your beard and the skin under it. It’s the perfect place to start!
If you’re trying to grow a beard, this guide from Healthline is helpful. It explains what makes beards grow, and what you can do to help your facial hair along. It’s medically reviewed so we know the advice is based on modern science.
Sometimes, beards can be problematic! This article from Yale Medicine explains how to solve problems during your beard growing process and how to deal with common facial hair issues like itchiness, ingrown hairs, dandruff, and more.
Awesome Beard Blogs
GQ, one of our favorite men’s magazines, has an entire section dedicated to beards! It’s our go-to source when we want to find out about celeb beards, and it also features beard care advice and product reviews. While we’re at it, GQ’s Youtube channel also offers some worthwhile beard content like expert video tutorials on how to style and trim your facial hair.
A lot of online resources about beards pay equal attention to shaving—we know we do! If you’d like a resource that’s strictly focused on maintaining your facial hair, Stubble and Stache has an awesome blog that gets into beard care and growth in a lot of detail.
We’ve tried and loved a lot of Bulldog beard care products (especially their beard balm and beard shampoo). It should come as no surprise that we’re also fans of the Bulldog blog! The blog gets into a lot of topics that men with beards will find educational, like beard care guides and styling tips.
Facial Hair Inspiration
Men’s Health doesn’t cover beards as often as some of the other publications we’ve suggested, but we find this list of beard styles very inspiring! It’ll give you a lot of ideas for how you can style your facial hair, with corresponding photos of celebrities.
From Esquire, this is a solid introduction to caring for a mustache, whether or not you’re rocking it with a beard. You’ll discover that caring for a ‘stache isn’t too different from caring for a beard, but it’s a nice resource nonetheless, especially once Movember rolls around.
If your mustache needs a trim, this guide is quite detailed and helpful without becoming a tedious read. It’s also versatile, with tips for trimming with both trimmers and scissors.
Goatees have a complicated reputation, but we think a lot of guys can pull them off! If you’d like to give this style a try, this guide gives a lot of suggestions for how to choose a goatee that’ll fit your face shape.
Beard & Skincare Products
This blog post is a fountain of knowledge about how different oils work with hair. It was technically written with head hair in mind, but it’s just as relevant for facial hair. Which oils penetrate the hair shaft? Which oils coat it? This awesome guide might help you choose your next beard oil!
Did you know Allure occasionally publishes content for men? This guide for how to do skincare with a beard is quite helpful. It’s a quick and easy read but all of the advice in it was sourced from dermatologists, so you know it’s the real deal.
Bearddit isn’t for beards—it’s for bearded men! This subreddit is technically dedicated to all things beards, but it’s mostly just a place to show off your sweet growth and to cheer others on in their journey. There are other beard communities worth joining on Reddit, like r/beardadvice for asking questions and r/beardtalk for beard discussion without photos.
This beard forum on Tapatalk is a famously wholesome community for men who are passionate about their facial hair.
